Title: The Paradox Otherwise Known as Thompson's Group $F$

Abstract: While Richard Thompson's group $F$ can be expressed as a group of straightforward combinatorial objects, this important example in geometric group theory enjoys a number of surprising and often somewhat paradoxical properties. This talk explores $F$ from the viewpoint of tree-pairs, keeping an eye out for abnormal behavior.
