I'll present an algebraic framework which simultaneously generalizes the notions of linear subspaces, matroids, oriented matroids, and phased matroids. The resulting objects are called “matroids over hyperfields”. This is from a new paper by Matthew Baker, “Matroids over hyperfields”.
